Kentucky Derby Again

(Kentucky Derby 2012.com photo)

OK, I promise, this is the last post about the Derby.  But the post positions are in, we are about 36 hours out.  There is even an alternate entry, My Adonis, in case one of the 20 current entrants scratches at the last minute.  (Only 20 horses can run).   First time in history that this has happened.

Bodemeister was made the morning favorite at 4 to 1.  Union Rags at 9 to 2. Gemologist at 6 to 1.  If Bodemeister wins, he'll become the first horse in 130 years to win the Derby without having raced as a two-year-old.  Last one to do this was Apollo way back in 1883.

Whoever wins, he'll bring home the bacon.  With 20 horses in the race, the purse is $2,219,600.  Winner takes $1,459,600, second takes $400,000 and third gets $200,000.  But with a $50K entry fee, well, most will be in the red.

Post time is 6:24 pm.

Here are my picks for what it's worth:

Take Charge Indy
Creative Cause
Union Rags
Gemologist

(Predict that these will be in the top three).  The race is just filled with too much talent to pick an exact winner!

Upset could come from Daddy Nose Best.  He has been working impressively this week.  With a lot of traffic some of the good ones could get boxed in and not be able to run their race.

  1. The Kentucky Derby and the festival both are fantastic fun and, as a lifelong Louisville, I welcome you to the event and to our fine city. Just keep in mind that there are some things you should do while here and some things you probably shouldn’t, at least if having fun is your motivation. If you really want fun and feel relax then book a Kentucky Derby Rentals
