Lake Louise 2013, Part One

Wanted to share a few quick photos with you from our trip to Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada.  We arrived back in the US late Tuesday night (that is another story).  But as usual, we had a great time.  It snowed the last weekend we were there.  They call they kind of storm they got, a "pineapple" because they come in from Hawaii.  This one dumped a lot of snow and we were able to ski in powder up to our waist in some spots on Sunday.

There is a trail that goes around the giant lake and there is a sleigh that you can ride in.  I love the sign!

Skiing was good.  Light on snow early in our trip but the big dump helped.  Of course, compared to most places in the US, Lake Louise is heaven.  They hold World Cup Races here.  And it is the largest ski hill in Canada in terms of size.

The view at Lake Louise, is just, let's say priceless.  They have a contest in late January, ice carving. This castle is actually on the lake which does not thaw until June.

This is a view from the very top of the ski hill looking across the Canadian Rockies:

Another view of the glacier behind the lake, a bit closer this time:

More to come.  Enjoy your Saturday.

  1. Gorgeous! I've only been there in the summer so haven't seen all the beautiful snow.

  3. I went skiiing out west once, at Tahoe, in the spring.
Wow is it different from upstate NY skiing [ie downhill ice skating].
    Great views, thanks for sharing!

  4. Oh, that is just beautiful! I haven't gone anywhere to ski in about 20 years, but if I did I think I would want to go there. Glad you got the fresh snow as that must have been glorious. I'm afraid my skiing has been more of the "downhill ice skating" type that Late Bloomers mentioned (Vermont and Michigan - Maine was a bit better, just COOOOOLD). :-)
