The Derby Preps

If you like horse racing then you're in for a real treat this weekend as several races will sharpen the focus on the top Derby picks which is less than a month away. At the top of everyone's list is Dortmund, unbeaten, he will run in the Santa Anita Derby on Saturday.  He's a 17 hand beast, son of Derby winner Big Brown, and was purchased for a mere $140,000 as a two-year-old-in-training (change in horse racing circles) at a sale in Maryland.

Carpe Diem will run in Saturday's Blue Grass Stakes and he is a top Derby contender especially if he runs well again this weekend.

The Wood Memorial will also run on Saturday.  If you recall, the great Secretariat lost in the Wood, due to an abcess but he came back strong to win the Derby a few weeks later and the rest is history.

Those that still need to win to make it to the Derby may head to the Arkansas Derby on April 11th.  Then we'll all wait for the Run for the Roses in just a few more weeks.
