The Lovely Laurel Highlands

We ventured back to our old stomping grounds this past weekend and stayed in the lovely Laurel Highlands of western Pennsylvania. It's not a hot tourist destination but if you are seeking an easy trip by car you might want to try this one.  We stayed at the historic Summit Inn in Farmington, PA which has been lovingly refurbished.  The view is to die for and the hotel is very nice but not over the top.  We loved staying there again.

The inn now has a tree house that is worth seeing too.  It is a great idea.

If you like history and architecture, there are two Frank Lloyd Wright houses in the area, the infamous Fallingwater, his masterpiece....

And the lesser known usonian house, Kentuck Knob which is also worth seeing. The two houses are vastly different but about 20 minutes apart.  Both houses are extraordinary but make reservations well in advance.  They close in winter.

There's a restaurant I wished we had visited nearby, call Dr. McCarthy's Kitchen.  It was recommended.

There are other attractions in the area like the Fort Necessity Battlefield which was the opening battle of the French and Indian War.

Nearby Ohiopyle has some of the best white water rafting around. There are many bike and hiking trails in the area as well.

This is a great spot.
